The 41st Anniversary Pigs n Heat game was held on Wednesday, March 19th at 6:30 p.m. at Lakeview Arena. The game, as always, featured teams made up of Marquette County law enforcement and firefighters to raise funds for the Marquette County Fire Relief Fund.
What first began when Marquette City Police Officer Larry Grimsby, Michigan State Trooper Dave Rotteman, and Marquette City Firefighter Dan Dagenais wanted to raise money to assist a family with three young children whose home had just been lost to a fire. Flash forward 40 years; today the Pigs-N-Heat Charity hockey game draws between 2,500–3,000 people and raises approximately $15,000 to $20,000. While there is a trophy to play for and a bit of an established rivalry, this friendly game is also a way to honor and celebrate both Firefighter and Policeman of the year.
This edition of the fixture saw the Pigs come out on top in front of a jam packed Lakeview crowd, holding off a 3rd period flurry from the Heat to win 6-5.
